Yodpiman Flower Market of Flower City as it is called is part of a 3 market complex. The privately owned Yodpiman Flower Market and ICP Market along with the government-owned Pak Khlong market. The round building in which the market is located takes up several blocks and looks like any slow rise apartment building with balconied apartments and medium-sized shops below. On the outside it has two main entries and several side entries to what could be an inner courtyard. Inside however it is a maze of endless rows of market stands covered in flowers, fruits and vegetables both for small and wholesale. The structure inside is a huge metal covered market structure complete with indoor housing.

The most remarkable yellow, the symbolic Thai color representing glory, harmony, and unity, allures you from every corner. The lushness of the vegetables and herbs in all shades of grey, the spicy red of drying chilis, and the multitude of flowers such as orchids, lotus, chrysanthemums, roses and much more leaves your mouth agape when you unsuspectingly enter this magic structure. The smells are heavenly too.
The market stands and booths have every imaginable household items such as chairs, bedrolls, standing fans, fridges, stoves, pots, baskets, paper scattered or piled along side by side – the feeling is that people spend their days living here, chatting, selling their wares and one can imagine the romances and family sagas that have sprouted here. There are baskets of every size, mostly handmade.

Inside (and out) all types of 2-wheeled transportation vehicles such as bicycles, motorcycles, handcarts, sack carts, baby carriages, scooters squeeze down the aisles and rows among the pedestrians buying and selling, eating or lounging or simply staring in awe like us, camera at the ready.

Yodpiman Flower Market is less frequented by tourists who are usually directed or drawn to Pak Klong Talat Flower Market which is nearby. We however enjoyed this authentic view into a local market that well reflected everyday life in Bangkok. Relaxed locals going about their business and paying little attention to the few tourists who stumbled into this magic cave.

To take a look at some of the stunning photographs we took of our market visit, please open the Steller story below and enjoy!

You can find the market near the Pak Klong Talad Pier at Soi San Chao Ban Mo, Khwaeng Wang Burapha Phirom, Khet Phra Nakhon, Krung Thep Maha Nakhon 10200, Thailand – open daily 24 hrs.
